Today the Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA) is delighted to launch two new research projects.

SMIA Research: Skills Development

Firstly, in partnership with the Scottish Graduate School of Arts and Humanities, we are running a pHD student-driven research project to identify the skills gaps, training needs and development priorities for the Scottish music industry. Research will be initially be done via surveys, and following this, a series of in-depth case studies will be conducted.

Our survey has launched today which you can find here. We ask for only 10 minutes of your time to complete it, contributing to our research and helping strengthen our music industry. If you could also help spread the word by sharing details of our research on social media/to your own mailing lists, this would be greatly appreciated.

For any queries regarding this research, please email: development@smia.org.uk

SMIA Research: Scottish Music Industry Contact Database

Secondly, in partnership with the University of Glasgow, we are running a post-graduate student-driven research project to begin building a comprehensive directory of music industry businesses and practitioners throughout Scotland.  This database will be a hugely valuable asset, and will subsequently be available on our website. It will also form the foundation of the next phase of our research ambitions: calculating value and GDP.

We ask for only a few minutes of your time to complete this form and add your details to our database. Again, if you could also help spread the word by sharing details on social media/to your own mailing lists, this would be greatly appreciated.

For any queries regarding this research, please email: research@smia.org.uk

By completing our surveys, you are also given the chance to enter a competition to win one year's free Sole Trader membership of the SMIA. Details regarding the competitions can be found at the end of each form.
